Conversations inbox
Read and reply to visitor messages and contact-form threads.
Quick start
- Sign in and open
Conversationsfrom the app sidebar (/conversations). - In the Inbox list, find the thread you want. Optionally type in Search to narrow by participant name.
- Click a conversation row to open the thread. On small screens, the list hides and the thread fills the page — use Back to inbox to return.
- Read the messages in the thread panel, then type in Write a message... and send your reply.
- You should now see the selected thread open with your reply in the conversation.
New threads usually arrive after a visitor uses your portfolio contact form (or related chat). Enable and configure the form in the editor first — see Contact, embeds, and content blocks.
Deep dive
Inbox layout
Conversations is a two-pane inbox:
| Area | What you see |
|---|---|
| Inbox (left) | Thread list with Search, optional Load more, and status messages |
| Thread panel (right) | Selected conversation in a full-page chat dock — or an empty prompt when nothing is selected |
On mobile-width viewports, only one pane shows at a time: the list, or the thread with Back to inbox.
Selecting and searching threads
Each row shows the other participant’s name (and an unread indicator when you have unread messages). Click a row to select it. The URL hash updates so you can bookmark or share a deep link to that conversation.
Search filters the loaded list by participant name. It does not replace loading older pages — if you expect more history, use Load more when that button appears.
If a hash points to a conversation you cannot open, Portura clears the selection and shows: That conversation is not available.
Empty states
| Situation | What you see |
|---|---|
| No threads yet | No conversations yet. in the inbox list |
| Nothing selected (desktop) | Empty state: Select a conversation — Choose someone from your inbox to read the thread and reply. |
| Thread open with no messages yet | No messages yet / Say hello to start the conversation. |
Replying in the thread
The selected thread opens in the page chat dock (ChatDockWindow). You can scroll the transcript, type in Write a message..., and send. Replies stay in that conversation so you and the visitor keep one continuous thread.
Contact form and email notifications
Most inbound threads start when someone submits your public Contact Form (or chats in a way that creates an inbox conversation). Owner setup — enable the section, display toggles, guest messaging, spam checks — lives in the portfolio editor under Page sections. Follow Contact, embeds, and content blocks.
Messages can also arrive by email notification alongside this inbox. Portura keeps Conversations as the in-app place to read and reply. High-level product facts: FAQ.
Visitor form setup and submit path: Contact form for visitors. Owner Help links live in Conversations and the editor — not as icons on public visitor surfaces.
Visitor Mira vs contact form
Contact form submissions create message threads you handle here. Visitor Mira is a separate public-page AI chat for guests asking about your portfolio. It is not a replacement for Conversations, and owner review Mira in the editor is different again.
For visitor Mira, see Visitor Mira chat. Public page overview: Public portfolio page. Privacy toggles that affect visitor Mira: Privacy, SEO, and analytics.
Tips
- Enable Contact Form and publish before you expect new inbox threads — an empty Inbox usually means no visitor messages yet, not a broken page.
- Use Search when the list grows; use Load more when older threads are not in the current page.
- Bookmark a thread URL (with hash) to reopen the same conversation later.
- Prefer Conversations for threaded replies; email notifications are a heads-up, not the full reply workspace.
- On this page, use the ? next to the title for a short reminder and a Learn more link back to this article.
If the inbox stays empty after a test submit, confirm the contact form is Enabled, the portfolio is published, and you submitted as a visitor (or allowed guest path). Owner setup: extra sections.
Troubleshooting
Inbox says “No conversations yet.”
- Confirm Contact Form is Enabled and the portfolio is published.
- Submit a test message from the public page, then refresh Conversations.
- Check email for a notification — if mail arrived but the inbox is empty, refresh or sign out and back in, then reopen
/conversations.
“That conversation is not available.”
- The link or hash may be stale, deleted, or for another account. Clear the hash or pick a thread from Inbox.
Cannot find a recent thread in the list
- Clear Search if a filter is hiding rows.
- Click Load more when it appears.
- Confirm you are signed in as the portfolio owner who receives those messages.
