Edit theme with Mira

Chat about theme tweaks vs Theme Designer and portfolio review.

Quick start

  1. Sign in and open Edit theme for a portfolio (/portfolios/theme-edit/[pid]).
  2. Click the floating Theme assist control (lower-right). The Theme assist panel opens.
  3. Choose Edit or Ask with the mode toggle. The input label shows Edit with Mira or Ask Mira.
  4. In Edit, set Assist scope to Global or one section, then type a tweak (or tap a suggestion chip) and send.
  5. When Mira returns a suggestion, use Preview if you want to compare values, then Apply or Skip.
  6. Click toolbar Save when you are ready — proposals stay in the editor preview until you save.

Theme assist is for scoped theme chat in theme edit. For a full AI starting theme, use Theme Designer. For portfolio content proposals, use Mira portfolio review.

Deep dive

Where Theme assist lives

Theme assist is a floating Mira panel on theme edit only:

StepWhere
Open theme edit/portfolios/theme-edit/[pid]Theme editor overview
Open the panelFloating Theme assist button (avatar + AI control on larger screens)

It is not Theme Designer (Preview wizard) and not the portfolio-editor review chat.

Edit vs Ask

ModeToggleInput labelWhat happens
EditEditEdit with MiraMira can propose theme changes for the current Assist scope. You Preview, Apply, or Skip.
AskAskAsk MiraMira answers content and design questions using your full portfolio and theme. No edits are applied.

Helper text under the mode row explains the active mode. Switch to Edit when you want previewed changes.

Assist scope (Edit mode)

In Edit, the Assist scope dropdown picks what Mira may change:

  • Global — colors, typography, page padding, motion, and other site-wide settings
  • A section — layout, visibility, width, section title, entrance motion, and that section’s styles only

Scope stays in sync with Layers / the Global and Sections tabs. Chat history is kept separately per mode and scope. Use Reset chat in the panel header to clear the current transcript.

You cannot send another Edit request while a suggestion is waiting — Apply or Skip first.

Preview, Apply, and Skip

When Edit mode returns a proposal:

  1. Read the short summary and the brand tip in the panel.
  2. Optional: Preview opens Preview theme update so you can compare current and proposed values.
  3. Apply keeps the suggestion in your editor theme (still unsaved until toolbar Save).
  4. Skip dismisses the suggestion without applying it.

Closing the preview dialog returns you to the panel — keep or dismiss from there.

Theme Designer vs Theme assist vs portfolio Mira review

Three different Mira/AI surfaces — pick by goal:

SurfaceWhereUse when
Theme DesignerPreview → workspace menu Theme DesignerYou want a full starting look from vibe, color mode, and density
Theme assist (this guide)Theme edit → Theme assist panelYou want scoped theme tweaks or design Q&A while editing styles
Mira portfolio reviewPortfolio editor → Ask me about your portfolioYou want content proposals (profile, career items, gallery copy, and similar)

Theme assist does not generate a whole new theme. Prefer Theme Designer for that. Prefer portfolio review Mira for text and section content — not for colors and layouts.

Tokens and usage

Theme assist uses AI tokens (usage credits). Allowances, account credit, and plan differences change over time — check the FAQ and Settings → billing. A dedicated Plans and tokens guide will cover this when Account & billing Help ships. This article does not hard-code prices or token counts.

Tips

  • Prefer Ask for advice (“which sections feel too dense?”), then switch to Edit with a clear scope for a concrete tweak.
  • Match Assist scope to the section you see selected in Layers so Mira does not propose the wrong surface.
  • Use suggestion chips when you want a fast starting prompt; edit the text box when you need something specific.
  • After Apply, review the live theme preview, then toolbar Save — nothing is persisted until you save.
  • Use the panel ? for a short reminder and a Learn more link to this article.

Whole-theme generation is not available in Theme assist. Open Theme Designer from Preview when you want to replace the overall look.

Troubleshooting

I do not see Theme assist

  • Confirm you are on /portfolios/theme-edit/[pid] as an owner with AI tools enabled for this workspace.
  • Look for the floating control in the lower-right; click it to open the panel.

Mira replied but there is no Apply / Skip row

  • In Ask mode, replies are guidance only — switch to Edit for proposals.
  • In Edit, not every reply includes an applyable suggestion. Ask for a concrete scoped change.

I cannot send another Edit request

  • Finish the pending suggestion with Apply or Skip first.
  • Confirm Assist scope is set (Global or a section).

Changes disappeared after I closed the panel

  • Apply only updates the in-editor theme. Use toolbar Save to keep them. Closing Theme assist does not auto-save.
