Preview and public page

Owner preview vs Home and extra public page URLs.

Quick start

  1. Sign in, open My Portfolios, and on a portfolio card click Preview (or open any workspace page and use the menu → Preview) to open /portfolios/preview/[pid].
  2. Review the themed layout. If the portfolio is Public and you have unpublished edits, Preview shows your draft — visitors still see the last published version until you publish.
  3. Open the Portfolio workspace menu (three-dot) → View public page to open /p/[slug] in a new tab (same destination as your Home public URL). On Plus, extra pages use /p/[slug]/[pageSlug].
  4. Confirm visitors can only see the live page when the portfolio is Public. Private portfolios stay unavailable to anonymous visitors until you publish (see Publish and drafts).

Deep dive

Owner preview vs public URL

SurfaceRouteWho uses itWhat it shows
Preview/portfolios/preview/[pid]You (and collaborators with access), signed inYour editable portfolio — including an unpublished draft when one exists
Preview (extra page)/portfolios/preview/[pid]/[pageSlug]You on Plus when the portfolio has extra pagesThe same preview, filtered to that page
Public Home/p/[slug]Visitors (and you checking the live site)The published live Home page only — not draft edits
Public extra page/p/[slug]/[pageSlug]Visitors on PlusThe published extra page. Without Plus, that URL redirects to Home

Always use canonical workspace paths such as /portfolios/preview/[pid]. Older /portfolio/... aliases may redirect, but Help teaches /portfolios only.

Opening Preview

Ways to open Preview:

  • Portfolio card → Preview (or card menu → Preview)
  • Content editor header → Preview
  • Workspace menu → Preview from edit, theme-edit, or history

Preview requires sign-in and portfolio access. Collaborators can open Preview; only owners can publish or discard drafts.

Plus: When the owner plan includes extra pages and the portfolio has more than Home, Preview shows a Preview page picker. Choose Home or an extra page. Free and Pro do not show the picker. Extra sections that are not placed on a page have no preview until you place them in Theme Layers. Public visitor pages do not show Help ? controls.

Does Preview show drafts?

Yes — when the portfolio is already Public and an unpublished draft exists, Preview (and the content/theme editors) load the draft so you can check layout and content before go-live.

  • Private portfolios do not use the draft/publish split yet — Preview shows the current portfolio you are editing.
  • After you publish, Preview and the public page match until you save new changes that create another draft.
  • SEO & Sharing and Plus page metadata follow the same draft flow: Preview uses the editable draft, while search crawlers and social links keep the last published metadata until you publish. Generate with AI only fills the open SEO form until you save it; applying a portfolio-edit Mira SEO proposal writes the editable portfolio or theme draft.

Use Preview to catch layout issues; use View public page after Publish draft to confirm what visitors see.

View public page (/p/[slug])

From any workspace page, open the Portfolio workspace menuView public page. That opens your public Home URL (/p/[slug] on Portura, or your custom domain when configured) in a new tab.

  • Visitors reach the page only when privacy is Public. A private slug returns unavailable for anonymous visitors.
  • Owners can still open /p/[slug] while the portfolio is private (owner-only exception) to inspect the live route — this is not a visitor password unlock. Portura does not offer password-protected public URLs.
  • The public page always serves published content. Unpublished draft edits never appear there until you publish.

Plus extra pages use /p/[slug]/[pageSlug] on Portura. On a connected custom domain (Pro), the extra path is /{pageSlug} on that host. Without Plus, extra slugs redirect to Home (/p/[slug] or https://your-domain/).

How to add pages: Nickname, URL, and pages.

Custom domains

A connected custom domain hosts the same portfolio as /p/[slug] — same published content, not a separate site. Setup and DNS belong in Custom domains (Pro). Nested /{pageSlug} on that host is Plus.

Visitor contact and Mira

On the live public page, visitors may use your contact form and (when enabled) visitor Mira chat. Owner guides for those surfaces ship under Public portfolio help:

Tips

  • Prefer Preview while drafting; use View public page after Publish draft for a final visitor check.
  • If Preview looks right but /p/[slug] looks old, you still have an unpublished draft — publish it (or discard it) from the workspace header.
  • On Plus, confirm you opened the extra page URL (/p/[slug]/[pageSlug]) when checking a non-Home page. Without Plus, that path redirects to Home.
  • Share Preview with collaborators via portfolio access; do not rely on a private public URL for visitor review.
  • Keep the slug you share with employers or clients on the Public portfolio after you publish.

On Preview, use the ? in the header for a short reminder and a Learn more link back to this article.

Troubleshooting

Preview shows my new edits, but the public page does not

  • You are looking at a draft in Preview. Publish with Publish draft, or open Publish and drafts.
  • Confirm you opened View public page / /p/[slug] for the same portfolio slug.

Visitors say the public page is unavailable

  • The portfolio may still be Private. Publish (first go-live) or set privacy to Public, then share /p/[slug] again.
  • Locked-by-plan portfolios are not available on the public URL until you upgrade.

View public page opens, but I am the only one who can see it

  • Owners can open a private portfolio’s /p/[slug] route; anonymous visitors cannot. Make the portfolio Public before sharing the link.
