Create a portfolio

Start blank or import a resume; Plus for additional portfolios.

Quick start

  1. Sign in and open My Portfolios (/portfolios).
  2. Click Create Portfolio (header button, or the empty-state CTA if you have no portfolios yet).
  3. In the Create Portfolio dialog, choose a path:
    • Start blank → click Create Blank.
    • Start from resume → click Upload Resume, review the draft, then click Create From Resume.
  4. You should land in the portfolio editor at /portfolios/edit/[pid] with your new site ready to edit.

First time here? See My Portfolios and Portfolios overview. New accounts often create their first site during onboarding.

Deep dive

Open the create dialog

From My Portfolios, Create Portfolio opens a dialog titled Create Portfolio. You can start blank or from a resume in the same dialog.

If the page is empty, Create your first portfolio explains both options and offers the same Create Portfolio button.

Always use the canonical /portfolios path. Older /portfolio/... aliases may redirect, but Help teaches /portfolios only.

Start blank

Under Start blank, create an empty portfolio, then add content in the builder.

  1. Click Create Blank.
  2. Portura creates the portfolio and opens the content editor (/portfolios/edit/[pid]).
  3. Fill sections, choose a theme later, and publish when ready.

Cancel closes the dialog without creating anything.

Start from resume

Under Start from resume, upload a file, review the generated draft, then create.

  1. Click Upload Resume. Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, or TXT (max 5MB).
  2. Wait while Portura analyzes the file (“Analyzing your resume…”).
  3. A Resume draft panel appears so you can review structured content before committing.
  4. Click Create From Resume to create the portfolio and open the editor — or cancel the draft to discard it and stay in the dialog.

This Help article covers create-time import only. Deeper import options inside the editor belong in Import from resume.

What resume import typically fills

Import maps resume text into portfolio fields when the file is clear enough. Expect some or all of:

  • Name, email, phone, title / tagline
  • Summary or bio
  • Skills
  • Location and languages
  • Experience, education, projects, and certifications
  • Common profile links (for example LinkedIn or GitHub) when present

Results vary by resume layout. Always review the draft, then refine nickname, public URL slug, and sections in the editor. New portfolios start as a single Home page; Plus can add extra pages later in Setup. Nickname, slug, and Pages: Nickname, URL, and pages.

Free vs Pro vs Plus — additional portfolios

Free and Pro accounts include one portfolio. Creating your first site works on both.

When you already have a portfolio and your plan does not include multi-portfolios:

  • Create Portfolio shows a Plus upgrade path instead of opening another create dialog.
  • You cannot add a second portfolio until you upgrade to Plus.

Plus (with multi-portfolios) lets you add more portfolios up to your plan limit (up to five). The My Portfolios header shows usage (for example “2 of 5 portfolios used”). At the plan limit, Create Portfolio is disabled with a short limit message.

You can also Duplicate an existing card from the portfolio actions menu. That copies content and theme into a new private portfolio and opens the editor — same plan limit as Create Portfolio. Details: My Portfolios.

For current plan details, see Pricing or the FAQ. Help does not list prices.

After create

Successful create always opens the editor for the new portfolio (/portfolios/edit/[pid]). Return to My Portfolios anytime from the workspace menu to see the new card.

Next steps often include editing sections, choosing a theme, and publishing — see Publish and drafts when that guide is live.

Tips

  • Prefer Start from resume when you already have a solid PDF or DOCX — then clean up fields in the editor.
  • Prefer Start blank when you want to build section by section without cleaning an import.
  • Keep one default portfolio if you use job search or share links often; set default later from the card menu.
  • Plan limits live on Pricing and the FAQ; the dashboard usage chip shows how many portfolios you have used.
  • Nickname and public slug are easy to refine after create — do not block yourself on the perfect URL in the create dialog.

In the Create Portfolio dialog, use the ? next to the title for a short reminder and a Learn more link back to this article.
