First-time onboarding

Accept terms, set up your profile, and reach My Portfolios.

Quick start

  1. Sign in, then open onboarding if Portura did not send you there already (/onboarding requires authentication — guests are redirected to sign in).
  2. On Terms & Privacy, review the legal text, turn on I have read and accept the Terms & Privacy Policy., then click I Agree, Continue.
  3. On Your Profile, choose a Category, enter First Name and Last Name, optionally upload an Avatar, then click Save & Continue.
  4. If Portura asks you to Verify your email, enter the 6-digit Verification Code from your inbox and click Verify & Finish (skip this if your email is already verified — for example after OAuth).
  5. You should land on My Portfolios with your first portfolio ready. For create options such as resume import, see Create a portfolio.

Deep dive

Auth required for /onboarding

/onboarding is a signed-in route. If you are not logged in, Portura redirects you to Sign in with a callbackUrl back to onboarding. Finish sign-up or sign-in first.

The page title is Welcome - Start your setup. A three-step progress bar tracks Terms, Profile, and Verify email. If you already completed onboarding (DONE), Portura sends you straight to My Portfolios.

Step 1 — Accept terms (TERMS)

The first wizard step is Terms & Privacy. Read the combined Terms of Service and Privacy Policy in the scrollable panel.

Turn on the toggle I have read and accept the Terms & Privacy Policy.I Agree, Continue stays disabled until you accept. Click it to move to your profile.

Step 2 — Complete profile (PROFILE)

Your Profile collects the basics Portura uses for your account and first portfolio:

  • Category (required) — your field or portfolio persona
  • First Name and Last Name (required)
  • Avatar (optional) — Upload Avatar or Replace later

Click Save & Continue when the required fields are filled. Portura saves your profile, then either finishes onboarding or asks you to verify email.

Step 3 — Verify email when required (VERIFY_EMAIL)

After profile save, if your email is already verified (common with Google, LinkedIn, or GitHub signup), Portura skips this step and creates your first portfolio.

If verification is still needed, you see Verify your email. Portura emails a 6-digit code to your address (shown masked). Enter it in Verification Code, then click Verify & Finish. Use Resend code if the message did not arrive (there is a short cooldown between resends). Check spam if needed.

Why email verification matters

Verification confirms the inbox on your Portura account. A verified email helps Portura reach you for security and account messages (for example password recovery on password-based accounts) and marks the address as trusted on your user record. Completing verification when asked unblocks finishing onboarding and reaching My Portfolios.

OAuth signups often arrive with email already verified by the provider — you still accept terms and complete your profile; you may never see the code step.

Reach My Portfolios / first portfolio

When onboarding finishes, Portura creates a default portfolio if you do not already have one (using the Category you chose) and redirects you to My Portfolios.

From there you can open, edit, and publish. When you create another portfolio (or use create flows that offer import), resume import may appear — full create steps live in Create a portfolio (that guide ships with the portfolios Help category).

This article does not cover the portfolio editor section-by-section. Use Help overview for where editor, themes, jobs, and billing guides will live.

Tips

  • Keep the same browser session while you finish all three steps so you do not lose progress mid-wizard.
  • Prefer a real inbox you check — verification codes and later account mail go there.
  • Pick a Category that matches how you present your work; it seeds your first portfolio.
  • Avatar is optional during onboarding; you can add or replace it later in your profile or portfolio editor.
  • Bookmark My Portfolios — it is your signed-in home after setup.

If you signed up with Google, LinkedIn, or GitHub and your email is already verified, expect two steps only: terms, then profile — then My Portfolios.

Troubleshooting

I am sent to Sign in when I open /onboarding

  • /onboarding requires authentication. Sign in (or create an account), then follow the callback back to onboarding.

I Agree, Continue stays disabled

  • Turn on I have read and accept the Terms & Privacy Policy. before clicking I Agree, Continue.

Save & Continue shows required-field errors

  • Fill Category, First Name, and Last Name. Avatar is optional.

I did not get a verification code

  • Check spam/junk for mail from Portura.
  • Click Resend code after the cooldown ends.
  • Confirm you can access the email address on your account (masked on the verify step).

I already finished onboarding but see /onboarding briefly

  • Completed accounts redirect to My Portfolios. Refresh or open /portfolios directly if the redirect is slow.
